Each year at McFadden Ranch we begin a new species count of birds that reside on or visit our land.  These are birds that we have personally observed and have been able to identify by use of field guides--either Peterson's, Sibley's or National Geographic (see resource list at bottom of page). 

The species we have encountered in 2009 are listed below.  We will be regularly posting updates and photos throughout the year.

We have always heard and seen parrot flocks in our area but October 2009 was the first time we had a flock actually visit our property.  On this encounter we counted at least 20 birds as they enjoyed eating the mammoth sunflowers that we grow for feathered friends.
